Athena’s Owls Competition: Making Monsters

Calling all Owls!

From snake-haired Medusa or the fire-breathing Hydra to triple-headed Cerberus, no Greek myth is complete without a monster, and we want to see yours!

This month, instead of our regular Athena’s Owls workshop in Manchester, we’ve decided to hold a competition for the best monster design, and we’d love as many of you to enter as possible. The competition is open to all 5-11 year olds in the UK and Ireland, whether you’ve been to our workshops before or not.

You can use the templates on our Resources page to get started, but for this competition you need to think big. No monster is too scary or too ridiculous – the more limbs and spikes and teeth, the better! And don’t forget to give it a name…

For this competition you can draw, cut and stick, and colour your monsters – you can even make them in 3D if you’re brave enough. Just get creative and send us a picture of your design and details of your name and age by email before the closing date – all the pictures will go into the gallery on our website and be shared on Twitter, and we’ll have a prize for the best monster designers!

There will be two age categories for this competition: 5-7 year olds and 8-11 year olds, and there will be prizes of Book Tokens for the winners and runners up in each category. The closing date is 5pm on Sunday 5th April, and we’ll announce the winner via Twitter on 8th April.

Send your entries in via our google form (https://forms.gle/VeompbEoMGB1mXrEA). Entries are limited to one per child and are completely free. UK & Ireland only. We’ll get in touch with winners via email following the competition.
