FAQ

Q: What’s all this Athena’s Owls business about, anyway?
A: I’m glad you asked! At a glance, a series of craft and literacy based myth/ancient history workshops for children – for more information about the workshops, click here.

Q: I want to come along. How much do the sessions cost?
A: Nothing! The workshops are and will always be completely free.

Q: OK – what do I need to bring?
A: Just yourself and a responsible adult! We provide all the materials and all we ask is that everyone comes prepared to get a bit gluey.

Q: When and where do the workshops take place?
A: You can find our up-to-date poster with details of time/date/theme here. At the moment, the workshops take place every 3rd Saturday of the month* from 11.15am-12.15pm in Didsbury Library in South Manchester (M20 2DN). We have big plans for future expansion though, so watch this space…
* Occasionally we have to adjust the schedule due to clashes so please check the calendar, our social media or our posters to make sure the event is scheduled before making the trip!

Q: I’m a school teacher/parent/carer/babysitter/ancient history enthusiast. Can I download and use your materials?
A: Yes, absolutely. Feel free to download and create as much as you like – just make sure to send us photos of your creations (and use the #AthenasOwls hashtag on Twitter so we can see it, if you’re into that kind of thing)! Most of our activities use materials that primary school classrooms may already have – if you use them for teaching, please do get in touch and let us know if you found the materials useful. If you would like to make a donation to help us cover the cost of workshops and materials, please contact us.

Q: I want to help! How can I help?
A: Wonderful! We always welcome volunteers to help run the workshops and people with crafty ideas, so if you would like to help on either count please get in touch right away! Another crucial way you can help us to keep running these events is to donate – we have received funding from the Institute of Classical Studies, but we rely on support from the Manchester Classical Association which is entirely funded by membership fees and donations from supporters. If you’re interested in become a Manchester CA member please head over to the website – membership fees go directly into running the branch’s projects, including Athena’s Owls.

Q: I want to set up my own Athena’s Owls project near me – is that OK?
A: Yes! We would love to see more Athena’s Owls bases around the country (and even internationally!) so if you’re interested in setting up a workshop of your own then send us a message and we’ll help you to get together everything that you need to get started.
